The production is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] to enhance the Greek National Opera’s artistic outreach.

The Greek National Opera, continuing a decade-long summer tradition and adapting to this year’s extraordinary circumstances, presents two Opera Galas at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
The first one, scheduled for Sunday 26.7.2020, will give us the chance to admire world-class opera stars Krassimira Stoyanova, Riccardo Massi and Dimitri Platanias performing famous arias and duets from operas of Verdi (Rigoletto, Il trovatore, Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino), Giordano (Andrea Chénier), Catalani (La Wally), Ponchielli (La Gioconda) and Puccini (Turandot). The GNO Orchestra will be conducted by the distinguished Italian conductor Pier Giorgio Morandi.

Bulgarian soprano Krassimira Stoyanova is one of the greatest opera singers of our time. From 1998, when her close collaboration with the Vienna State Opera began, to this day, she has conquered the world’s most prestigious opera houses, interpreting Verdi, Puccini and Strauss’s most taxing roles, as well as Slavic repertory.

Italian tenor Riccardo Massi –one of the most breath-taking performers of the Italian spinto repertoire– received international acclaim quite early in his career, as his interpretations of Verdi and Puccini’s emblematic roles were considered unsurpassable.

GNO’s renowned Greek baritone Dimitri Platanias, along with his appearances in Greece, has conquered the most prestigious European opera houses and opera festivals. He has collaborated with celebrated conductors and acclaimed directors and has shared the stage with world-class leading singers.
